Understood...just not an option in our environment. I can't have a Dr.or nurse get kicked out of medical info, in the midst of reviewing/entering it. >>> steveg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 9/19/2007 3:17:34 PM >>> You could make a maximum session time of something like 12 hours, that way a person work all day and even into the night but you can reboot in the late evening. We have done that for customers where the servers do a rolling reboot- sessions have a maximum time and if that server is due for a reboot the sessions are warned before and then ended at the time-out. In the meantime, you need the overhead of having that many additional physical servers, to handle the load of having other servers logons disabled. >>> joe.shonk@xxxxxxxxx 9/19/2007 2:31:19 PM >>> Be proactive... Disable logins the night before and when you come in the next morning the server(s) should be free of pesky users (assuming you use a connection timeout value) Joe -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Chad.M Schneider Sent: Wednesday, September 19, 2007 11:46 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Vitalizing Citrix Boxes Wait until users drop off... The cost and overhead is high for gaining very little or nothing at all. If anything, you've increase your resource requirements. Vmotion is cool, but do you really need it for a Citrix server? How hard is it to disable logons and wait until the users drop off? Building Citrix servers on raw hardware can be just as easy and fast as deploying a VM from a template. Throw in Ardence and you've got a killer solution (yes, Ardence can be used for VMs too) For really small silos and under-utilized servers it makes sense, but if you're deploying EPIC to 2000 users it does not. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Chad.M Schneider Sent: Wednesday, September 19, 2007 7:52 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Virtualizing Citrix Boxes I know several places, going entirely VM. I have been lucky to be part of them. Why would you want to....save rack space (thereby saving floor space), save power, save heat, ability to dynamically move servers, ease of build of new servers, save time, more efficiently run on the hardware given, etc. The list goes on and on. >>> jmedpc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 9/19/2007 9:43 AM >>> Why would you want to run PS servers on a VM? How much Virtualization is too much? I never thought of using VM for Citrix, except for test servers. I do use VM for WI, License and AAC servers, however. I'm voting for Ron Paul for President.
