Still sounds like a seamless window problem since you are getting the
Wfshell error.
Take a look at this and see if it helps.

I have a user with an XP SP2 client that is trying to attach to
a published app on a 2003 Sp1
server with MF XP it. If he uses the published app ( non
seamless) link, he gets the 2003 login screen
OK. After he logs in, he should see the login for the
application. Instead the desktop just turns
blue with no icons. If I hit the X it says it is termination the
app, so I know it's running. He can log
into other published apps on other servers fine.
If I create a custom ICA with the same parameters (95 % screen)
it works fine. He has his PC
resolution set to 1024x768. Any ideas?
