I agree that anything as volatile as CPU is pretty useless, but one thing we
do is to put a "Per User" load e.g .100 users and then a "secondary" load
based on CPU that are set to range between (say) 75-95% - so that it only
becomes effective for high CPU usage - Ditto a similar one for Memory

It's not so much for load balancing as being a poor mans CPU/Memory based
management tool for when something goes pear shaped.

Hi Shane,

User load is about the best, changing the max user load appropriately in a
mixed system environment. We also use the scheduling load rule for planned
outages and the IP filtering rule for multi-site single farms. Of the
performance related rules, memory usage is probably the only one that stable
enough to be used as a load evaluator.

Rick

thanks Rick - do you have any recommendations for load evaluation, or is the
default "user based" load evaluator the best option ?

Cheers,

Shane

Hi Shane,

Any load evaluator that is highly variable is as god as useless for load
balancing, in particular CPU utilization should not be used as a load
evaluator rule if you want aything like consistent load balancing.

Hi All - does anyone use the inbuilt "Advanced" load evaluator shipped
with Presentation Server 4 ? I am after feedback regarding results from
using this (does it work as expected, does it cause any probs etc) ? Any
feedback appreciated.

Cheers,
