[THIN] Re: MS05-043 Print spooler Security fix

We rolled it and no issues. We use client mapped printers and no third
party print utils.

For those who have installed the MS05-043 security patch, any issues?
I assume no problems as have not noticed any posts discussing except for the
one below making mention and that was over a month ago.

We got this from our MS person

MS05-043 - We have one reported issue where no network printers can be
accessed after this update is applied to a system with shared printers. The
current workaround is to setup a new network printer and this should allow
all the other network printers to now start functioning. We are looking
into this and will have more information as it becomes available. It
appears this may be due to an incompatibility between 3rd party Printer Port
Monitors and the updated spooler files. You may be able to resolve the
problem by removing or reinstalling the 3rd party Printer Port Monitors.

SP 4 Rollup has been blackballed by our IT staff....mainly from a Citrix
perspective.

There are fixes for MPS 3.0, but not for PS 4.0, which it also breaks, from
my testing.

Same scenario - forced to apply several patches just to get MS05-39.

We did Win2k sp4->post sp4 rollup->security patches->Citrix SP4->post sp4
rollup

Our biggest issue was not performance but printing. Some printers which had
been happily printing mapped to the LaserJe4 all of a sudden had garbled
text and some which had been happily printing using the UPD (color laserjet
4500) started printing all in black.

Most of the issues have been tied back to older clients (ver. 7) and were
resolved by upgrading to 8.

We tested this one. I don't think there is any way with a medium sized farm
to forsee every possible combination of client, printer, and driver. I just
assume the day after a major patch rollout will suck.

We were forced to apply SP4 due to ZDBOT. the Microsoft fix for that,
KB899588, wouldn't run with SP3.
Because of performance / slow logon issues with SP4 and Citrix, we also
needed to apply:
KB816134
KB821225
KB822428

We are watching the farm closely today...Yesterday was a nightmare.

Are people applying the SP4 rollup with the citrix patches successfully?

In other words does the citrix patch fix all the issues with the sp4
rollup? I'm wondering if I should apply it now, as windows update
doesn't show any patches that are included in the rollup, so in order
to install these patches on new builds I have to do it manually it
seems...ouch!
