I've written a number of apps for inhouse use. In several cases they include an NT service that connects to an SQL Server, with the client app talking to the NT service as a proxy. This works extremely well for complex database apps and clients on WAN connections. After consulting with MS, I was told (very grudgingly) that only the boxes running the NT service needed SQL server licenses. We saved a huge amount of money. This sounds like the same situation. -----Original Message----- From: Stansel, Paul [mailto:Paul.Stansel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 26 July 2002 13:32 To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Licences Required for XP Data Store in SQL We've had this debate several times, even to the point of having Microsoft reps say opposing things. Logically, you need 1 license per server if in direct mode. That's what SOME MS reps have said. Others have claimed you need 1 per user. Frankly, I think with 1 per box you are all set. -Paul > ---------- > From: Evan Mann[SMTP:emann@xxxxxxxxxxxx] > Reply To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Sent: Friday, July 26, 2002 8:07 AM > To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' > Subject: [THIN] Re: Licences Required for XP Data Store in SQL > > > I'd think it would be 1 license per Citrix server, because the Citrix > server > is the only thing making requests to the SQL server for user information. > > > In another instance, I publish accounting software through Citrix, it uses > a > SQL backend.
