CTX104188 - Profiles Fail to Create
This document was published at:

Document ID: CTX104188, Created on: Jul 27, 2004, Updated: Aug 24, 2004
Products: Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix
MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000
Environment
• Windows 2000, Windows 2003 (all service packs)
• MetaFrame XP 1.0 (all service packs)
Description
A file named JETXXXX.tmp (where XXXX is a random number) is created in
the default user profile. This file is locked and prohibits new users
from creating local profiles. This file is removed if ImaSrv.exe is
stopped and recreated when the service starts.
Solution
1. Ensure that the TMP and TEMP variables are set in the system and user
context (should see this from the System/Advanced/Environment Variables).
The Microsoft Web site (Q187629) states that the JETx.tmp files are
license files that the system uses.
2. Ensure that the folder C:\winnt\tmp is not missing. Without this, it
could be impossible to get Imasrv.exe to work after a reinstallation.
3. Check the System Environment Parameters/Variables
TMP=TEMP=C:\winnt\temp at this server. (Right-click my
computer/Properties/Advanced/Environment variables.)
From a filemon trace (tool available from Sysinternals), you can see
the failures related to Imasrv.exe, which could be linked to the missing
C:\winnt\tmp.
For instance:
ImaSrv.exe:1980 N:\Localprofiles\Documents and Settings\Default
User\JET8CFC.tmp
