As the store for IMS applications is different to the installed applications on
the PS machine - are asking about whether you should set up your PS server with
two partitions and have one for system/boot and the other for all applications
- then I would recommend two partitions. This is really a answer for the setup
of a PS server not IMS. IMS is now a service rather than an environment, in
the days of 1.8 you had to setup and second OS install to complete the package
capture, space was always a premium.

We are using MFPS 3.0
The SAN solution was a mandate from our CIO. He wants us to use the SAN and
its tools for Citrix deployment and disaster recovery....cost does not seem
to be an issue.
I guess what I really need to know is whether the partition for applications
should be different from the o/s? Is there a best practices model to follow?

Are you using MF 1.8 or MFXP/PS??
If you are using MFXP or PS you can store your images/packages on a standard
file server (aka cheaper storage than SAN). If you store the packages on a
standard file server then you do not need to backup your PS machine (that is
if you do not store data on them) and it will mean that recovery time will
be quicker. The size of the partition is solely dependant on the type of
applications you are pushing to your servers and the number of iterations
you plan to keep (ie how many old copies of the previous version of the
applications). We are using around 9G at the moment with approximately 100
apps. Work out the number of apps you will be installing, the size of each
application and multiply it by the number of updates you think each will
have - you then will have the estimated growth rate for your volume. If
this store fills up quicker than expected you can simply place any new
updates onto a different server and point IMS to the new location for the
new applications.

Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody is using this utility. I wanted some feedback as
to your set-ups for the server itself. More specifically the partition for
the hard drive space. I am planning to use 10 gb for the o/s 40 gb for the
applications [and their packaging]. This will all be logical disks [on a
SAN] and the local drives on the server will be for paging files.
How does this sound?
