It is silly to debate an interview question. If you want the job, then any
question they throw at you, you should use as a an opportunity to "WOW" them
with your depth of knowledge and undersanding !

I agree the question is valid to see if the candidate actually has worked
with the product or just memorized some white papers, however when asking
questions that are clearly dependant upon a unique environment that you may
or may not have all the information for and person asking the questions are
looking for direct specific answers, I am not sure how valid the question
is. It goes back to who is asking and what type of information are they
looking in the answer of the question. Good interviews would take the
information and just look at the analytical skills and not look for just the
right answer as there could be multiple good answers. Just a thought.

FWIW, I don't think that's such a bad question.

It's not particularly leading, nor is it pedantic and memory focussed.

Just gives a candidate an opportunity to show whether they do understand
something, to what degree they understand something, and how well they
can explain it.

If nothing else, it perhaps at least gives somebody the opportunity to
show they know more than merely product specifics, or cert required
knowledge.
