And you think this will help my COM port problem? -----Original Message----- From: Jim Kenzig http://thethin.net [mailto:jimkenz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, September 30, 2002 9:51 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Attn Jim:Update on COM ports being shut down Sure you can publish a desktop using RAS. If you just want a desktop you can have them RDP in instead of using Citrix even. This is how I get inside our firewall and manage our servers. The RAS dial in establishes Network connectivity and you run the rdp client or the citrix client via PN. It works fine. If you are worried about locking down your desktop there are several apps that can do that, EOL Desktop from Emergent, Tricerat Desktop, Appsense from appsense.net and good old appsec with NT Security, policies and profiles. The solution seems to be RAS, but It does not sound like I can get my users to a desktop that way. For now, that is what they need, a desktop. I am not nearly ready to start pushing out my published apps yet. I have taken a simple NT 4.0 TServer with email on it and turned it into Three Win2k servers that run, or at least connect to our mission critical apps. With all that, I am just starting to think about publishing all of my apps, especially since I am learning all of this as I go. Of course this list and the contributors to it have been my best resource so far, and I contribute when I can. I searched through some of the archives like you mentioned, but I couldn't come up with scripts that you referred to for resetting COM ports. If you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Finally, I thought you might find my emails with Emergent interesting, I just hope that their solution is not my only one Thanks, Collin White -----Original Message----- From: Peter Ghostine [mailto:pghostine@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, September 27, 2002 1:54 PM To: White, Collin Subject: RE: EOL WatchDog Download ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm
