Hi Ronnie,
We encountered this issue with Reader 9 which apparently also applies to 8.
We were publishing apps in 256 colours and we hit all kinds of problems with
text and graphic rendering as you described.
We found the solution was to switch off some options under
Preferences>PageDisplay>Rendering. Specifically setting "smooth text" to
none and disabling the options for "smooth line art" and "smooth images".
Doesn't look as pretty but displayed the content well enough.
