The Key to Prophecy
I was sitting at the Kotel very early in the morning learning... you
would call it still night. A young religious man came up to me and asked if
he could ask a question.
I nodded.
“How can I become a prophet?”
“Actually, that’s a good question. I’ll tell you how. We can learn from
the way the Kohen would open the door in the Temple in the morning. He
would wash, dress right, and do all the things that Hashem wanted him to
do, and then he would take the key in his hand and walk up to the door. The
door was locked and there was a hole in the wall next to the door. The
kohen would take the key in his hand and reach in through the hole to the
lock and he would unlock the door. Very unusual way to open a door!
“We learn from this the answer to your question. We have to do
everything we can to do what Hashem wants us to do, but in the end, the
door opens from the inside out, from the higher to the lower.”
“Can I do anything special to receive this blessing?”
“I can tell you, clearly, every blessing that I have ever received in
my life has come from His mercy, not from my merit.”
“Is there any technique I can use?”
“The best technique is to remember that Hashem is everywhere at all
times, even right here on our lips. Speak to Him lovingly, softly, as you
go through your day, ‘Abba I love you. Thank You….’”
I saw him again a little later. He was very thankful.
Today we do not have prophets, but we can all become His servant.
