Somewhere in the process of settling into the chair, Vanir hit the 'on' control
of his image inducer, once again holographically transforming his appearance to
fair skin, wavy black hair and blue eyes. He completely forgot about it,
though, as he read the information on the PADD, an uncharacteristic scowl
appearing on his face.
"This will never do," he grumbled softly as he dropped his feet to the floor.
There was a console in the mess hall. The main computer had to have more
information on Ethera's race than his PADD did. His mouth quirked in a a
half-hearted smirk as he sat in front of the console, wondering if Bella might
have done something to get back at him for the language reprogramming. The
scowl remained on his face, though. Bella hadn't done anything but the main
frame had nothing further on the Spriti. Fair skinned fingers drummed the
console in annoyance. All anybody knew about Ethera's people was that they
were a slave race subjugated by the Orions.
"Erklären Sie mir etwas, das ich nicht weiß," he said, annoyed. "You aren't
very helpful, computer."
Whatever, he thought resignedly. It would have been nice to know what ti
expect as Ethera gets older. How much different can Spriti be from Humans
though? He would remember thinking that later on and would tell himself that
he was an idiot. For the present, he simply gave the computer one last dirty
look then went back to his seat in the corner to read.
It wasn't until the door slid open that he realized the inducer was on. It was
too late to turn it off. It would have caused more trouble than it was worth.
Thankfully, it was the captain herself and she was alone. Before she could get
startled, he approached her and explained it was really him and what was going
on. She nodded and told him to leave it on, that she would explain the whole
thing later.
