No, this isn't the same thing at all. A USB drive is local, and all
information is written to it immediately. THere is no central hub in the
cloud that needs to be update to and from.

If you're losing entries on a USB installation, the more likely cause is
the USB drive is being taken away before all the data is written. Are
you using Windows built-in "eject" command? That will force all
lingering information to be written out.

Hi

I have experienced the same problem. I have been using TJ on a USB
drive and switch between multiple computers and run the journal from the
the journal.exe file on the USB. So, theoretically TJ should retrieve
the latest information from the USB as it is run from this platform.
Also, changes made to the themes and skins are not always invoked.
This is clearly a bug that needs to be fixed because a great deal of
information can be obliterated if it is left unchecked. David has been
made aware of this and is looking into the strange behavior of TJ.

If anyone has a solution, please let us know.

Because I use The Journal in multiple locations - especially, I use it
both in my office and at home - I've installed to a Cloud drive -
OneDrive, as it happens. I have a good speed broadband service at both
locations, with reasonable upload speeds. But a few times now I've been
caught out; I have been working on something at one location, quit the
program and turned off the computer, only to find when I've arrived at
the other location that the latest edits haven't appeared on the
document. My Journal file (I've been using this program for some while!)
is currently about 53Mb, and I guess that the whole file needs to be
uploaded/downloaded each time.

What's worse is that, after I've opened the file and discovered that the
latest edits are not there, then that shorter version seems to become
the 'current' version, and when I go back to the PC where I created the
earlier, longer version, it too has lost the edits.

What might be of interest would be a facility like Outlook's
'Auto-archive', where older, infrequently accessed content is shunted to
a reserve file?

Or (I am not a programmer!) some sort of 'differential' process, where a
local copy of the journal file is cached, and only the changes need to
be up/downloaded each time, not the whole file?

I'm not suggesting any of this counts as a bug to be fixed. But as many
more people use the Cloud as 'home' for data, maybe some strategy for
speeding up how the Journal works in those situations, or at least
flagging up content that might get lost, might make it into the next
major version?

Just some ideas...
