Judy Kestner and I observed the Surfbird from approximately 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. today. Thanks to the guys from Austin who helped us get on the bird. It started out on the North Jetty where we had good scope looks, and then it flew over to the South Jetty where we were standing. No scope required. Actually binoculars weren't even required! Very cooperative lifebird. Also, had a bonus Red Phalarope. Thanks Mary G. for the info on that one. After all the oohing and aahing, we drove on to Port A, where had a Warbling Vireo and two Black-throated Greens at Paradise Pond. Judy K. had an Ivory-billed Woodpecker, but that might have had something to do with today being April Fool's. At the Birding Center we had about twelve Cinnamon Teals, and gorgeous blue-billed Ruddy Ducks. In fact, all the breeding plumages really blew us away. We added Redheads at Charlie's Pasture. Lastly, we stopped at Site 59 in Port A where the Avocets had blazing red necks. Excellent birdi ng day.
