A morning guest mentioned an Aplomado Falcon along New Carmen south of 1732 on their way to the park this morning. When I drove out this afternoon to see if the bird was still around I found it in a freshly mowed field. This area is being more extensively hayed today. The bird was visible as I arrived but flew west, deep into the area being hayed. Earlier this afternoon a Northern Bobwhite walked across the tram road, just after the turn in the road at Hunter's Lane. We haven't seen or heard a Bobwhite in quite a while so were very glad to see one again. It was also very nice that four guests were able to get great views of the bird. -- Sherry Wilson Resident Park Host Resaca de la Palma State Park 1000 New Carmen Road Brownsville, TX 78521 956-350-2920 Bird Walks every Saturday - 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Butterfly Walks every Sunday - 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Night Hikes every Friday (must RSVP by 5:00 p.m. Thurs) - small fee Nature Tram Rides - Wednesday thru Sunday in March - Thursday thru Sunday in April http://www.facebook.com/resacadelapalma DIRECTIONS: The main entrance to Resaca de la Palma State Park is located on New Carmen Blvd. From Expressway 77/83, exit at Olmito, take FM 1732, follow for 2.5 miles; turn left at New Carmen Road; follow for 1.5 miles; shortly after the gravel hump in the road, turn left to enter the park. *Learn how you can help Texas State Parks:* http://bit.ly/sVdilb TEXBIRDS help file and Texas birding links at: http://moonmountaingroup.com/texbirds Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds
