Neotropic cormorants were nesting in the reed beds of shoveler pond this

One little clump of bushes down near yellow rail prairie had several each
marsh and sedge wrens plus a single house wren
Once upon a time the marsh wren was known as the long-billed marsh wren
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655033
and the sedge wren was the short-billed marsh wren

Both can straddle reeds like the seaside sparrows

On the way out, a maybe 4 year old bald eagle was finishing off a coot for
a late breakfast

Had to check to see if it had dropped anything good

Tail not as white as the hid

Lots of eastern phoebes perched on the fences. Both they and the say's
phoebe were gleaning mainly spiders from the ground which the wintering
vermilion flycatchers also do
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655138
Bigger spiders need lots of kneading and whacking to get rid of the legs
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655152
This is the 4th winter that the bird has used this bit of fence. Today it
was facing the road into the south wind

Down on the peninsula are reddish reddish egret was waiting for goodies
from the fishermen
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655144
Its white friend followed a favorite fisherman all along the water and then
begged for food. Not quite ready for the loud beg
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655146
But a tug on the pant leg got attention

But you have to wait until a fish is caught

Double-crested cormorants were on the pilings at bolivar with no brown
pelicans
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655165
And only a couple of brown pelicans at the texas city dike
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655163
A couple of killdeer were up at the dike
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655169
http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/164655168
The snowy plovers at bolivar flats were way out there and napping wherever
they were
