Anthony,
Thanks for the heads up about the painted buntings. I went outside and saw a
male painted bunting being buzzed by a hummingbird (probable female black
chinned). I also had two snowy egrets flyover today. I am still having
hummingbirds (black chins) but not in the amounts of past years.

Greetings All:
A veritable wave of Painted Buntings is moving through my region.
Yesterday, during roughly nine hours of birding in Hockley County (where
there are very sites likely to support breeding Painted Buntings) I spotted
at least 14 adult females, 26 adult males, and 18 immature Painted Buntings.
Upon my return to my home in Lubbock, I was greeted by an adult male Painted
Bunting (accidental to my yard) jousting with the House Finches and House
Sparrows.
A bit later, at a function in northeast Lubbock, I spotted an additional two
adult males at Spirit Ranch.
Somewhere, earlier this season, some Painted Buntings got seriously busy:)
