I found another wind site that is not as dramatic as the wind map site but
the windfinder pages are used by sailors, windsurfers etc for current
conditions and detailed forcasts for general areas like the gulf coast or
particular sites like smith point, the galveston jetty, padre island, lake
conroe etc.

If you go down the left margin a bit, click on the wind forcast and you get
a page for the gulf coast or if you have already picked a site like smith
point you get a forecast for the site. Forecasts are available in 3 hour
intervals for the next week.

It updates frequently when fronts change speed etc. Also can do isobars,
clouds, rain etc too.

So the wind should shift at the hawk watch tower a little before 7 tomorrow
morning.

Note that the north winds of the next 4 days will be enhanced by the
hurricane heading for the east coast. Depending on its distance from the
coast there will be wrap around effects coming down the high pressure
center over texas. It also can move lots of birds south and westward over
several days that may come here too.

Note that there is a good outflow of birds from the mountains to the plains
due to drought and fires and big northern finch flow and northern hawk flow
southward. For both groups there is a big drought area in the normal area
they would go to so the north winds and northwest winds can bring them to
east texas where there is food. Very interesting times ahead as evidenced
by the strays already seen this fall.

Did a look for the greater pewee this am in bear creek park without luck.
Many more birds out feeding heavily than on any previous trip including a
good group of tooting nuthatches west of restroom 10. Many more bluebirds,
pine warblers, butterbutts etc than over the weekend.
