It has been a great month for the toad people. Lots of singing all night to
celebrate the water.
The barred owl youngsters are also using the water to find small prey next
to the edge. They can also snatch things swimming.

The other day, a very small armadillo was swimming along the edge of the
detention area trying to get out but blocked by debris. The young owl was
really interested but never actually snatched at it. The sit around a lot
in the evening and use the balcony rails as hunting perches. They are
starting to call more after a couple weeks of silence but maybe that was
due to the rain.

Most every body has youngsters except for the Carolina wrens which have a
new nest in the garage which did not flood Monday. Only one single
red-bellied woodpecker youngster which apparently vanished. Chickadee and
titmouse babies are begging less but still cannot use feeders but they are
getting the idea.

Ground birds like doves and squirrels too are having trouble finding food
after the rain. Bun rabbit survived the 3 or 4 feet of fast moving water
somehow and seems to live on carrots.

A couple of yellow warblers and a chestnut-sided warbler were the last
migrants late in May.

Only a couple of weeks until I can look for wandering black and white
warblers.
