White-crowned Pigeon continues 10/5. Gives looks all day from its roosting
spot, but seems to have a favorite perch in a Tepehuaje just to the left of the
visitor center entrance waterfall, where it likes to come out and sit just
after noon time giving the best views. We’ve also observed it eating Possum
Grape Vine berries from a vine growing up a Huisache just left of the Tepehuaje
in the early afternoon and then return to the same perch.
Bird seems comfortable in its corner and has plenty to eat for now.
It’s been great to see so many birders coming by and enjoying this bird.

Bird was still present and roosting in its favorite corner at 6pm when I
left. Seemed comfortable in its place. It was a great day and it gave some
good views!
More chasing tomorrow!

my facebook posts, but sorry for the confusion it there was a mixup.

Javier,
The Facebook posts that were disseminated earlier today mentioned that
it was at the SPI Convention Center. To clarify, was the pigeon at the
SPI Birding and Nature Center or the Convention Center?
Thanks for posting the observation here, on Texbirds, the preferred
medium for rare bird alerts.

Hello Texbirders,
A White-crowned Pigeon was discovered just after noon today 10/3/2018
at the South Padre Island Birding & Nature Center on South Padre
Island.
Diego Lara, SPIBNC groundskeeper and I where chatting about a planting
project under the shade of a tree when he said "check out that pigeon"
and right above us sitting quietly on a branch was a White-crowned
Pigeon! I didn't even have my binoculars on and without hesitation I
ran for the camera.
We observed it all day and it felt pretty comfortable throughout as it
roosted in a dense tree area for most of the afternoon. I also saw it
eat Possum Grape Vine berries from a vine that had crept up a tree.
Plenty of Possum Grape Vine and Fiddlewood berries around in the
gardens, so it has some good food to eat.
Photos and details can be seen on my eBird list

I hope to be at the SPI birding center by dawn tomorrow for those
chasing!
