Today was an all time record for the ranch with grosbeaks. This morning I found
6 blue grosbeaks in the brush near the house along with numbers of orchard
orioles, and yb cuckoos. Most years I struggle to find one blue grosbeak. This
afternoon I found 1 blue grosbeak and 3 female rose-breasted grosbeaks in the
same area. This definitely the most grosbeaks I've ever seen on the ranch. In
fact it probably equals or exceeds the total number seen in the past 9 years.
Other observations - Finally have seen two broods of young bobwhites in the
past week. There have been lots of swallows around (several hundred) for the
past few weeks. Large numbers of purple martins and cliff/cave although martins
have thinned out the last few days.
