Cloudy and damp here in the Valley also--can't complain! Walked around the
Tropical Zone and some of the lakes at Estero Llano Grande State Park.
Lakes are drawn down for summer maintenance, but had a Black-necked Stilt
nest with 1 egg, and a White-tailed Kite foraged over the grassland. In the
Tropical Zone, tyrannulets were not to be found, but Golden-fronted
Woodpeckers brought food to one nest, and lots of Brown-crested Flycatchers
foraged in family groups. I also saw a nearly full-grown juvenile
Long-billed Thrasher, a somewhat out-of-place Loggerhead Shrike moving from
treetop to treetop in a quick fly-through, a migrant Orchard Oriole
calling. Red-crowned Parrots made a brief appearance, and Clay-colored
Thrushes were around, as usual. A colleague reported a Black-and-White
Warbler on the UT-Pan American campus in Edinburg today, so they are on the
move.
Best regards,
Tim Brush
