Howdy All!
Lots of birds in the park this week. Scouting for this weekend's bird tour
didn't disappoint this morning. Blackjack Nature Trail has been good for Purple
Finch, especially in the large ash tree on the south side of the trail. The
beaver pond is good for Swamp and Lincoln's Sparrow, Red-breasted Nuthatch,
Winter Wren, and the Pileated Woodpeckers are excavating a hole in a snag near
the lakeshore trial. A LeConte's Sparrow continues at the brush pile on the
emergency spillway near the lake dam. A Bald Eagle made lazy circles over the
lake this morning. I'm hoping it will hang around for a while.
If you're in the Tyler area, come on out to the Tyler State Park Bird Tour in
the morning, Nov. 17 at 8:15am. We are going to visit the locations mentioned
above. Meet at the park's headquarters building and we'll do a little birding.
