One more thing that I am curious about...Harder to pin down for me, is the
last avg. date that I hear males...It is a moving target here in Bastrop
Co. but I am going with about April 20...I personally feel I am seeing just
about the peak call time for males over the next few days. Some weather to
put them down may help. There are always stragglers, but I don't recall
having a calling May bird recently .

At most usually only 1-2 but rarely 3...The males, which you are hearing
have a fairly short window of time both as to when and how long they call
at dusk/dawn, but also the time they migrate through our area.....The
mostly if not totally silent females can be found for weeks afterwards
especially during fall-outs especially on the coast etc. I have had
calling males in the fall migration here in Utley, but not very often
...maybe once or twice a fall if I am paying attention and those are often
after a long very hot afternoon when it takes will power or some other
exercise to have one out at the right time in the evenings...I usually hear
the fall birds in the early AM, what few I do hear. Others may have more
insights..I am basing this on what I have learned where I live..I
personally start listening for them on March 23...Just my thing.

Had our first Chucks last night. We went to go pick it up for the year
and a Whip called from 20 feet into the woods. Couldn't believe we heard
it. First ever for us in Lago. I didn't think they came this far west. How
many do you usually have in Bastrop?

about the other...Usually have 3-4 early one as residents..The Whips were
calling from the usual direction and usual distance away.

No Uplands here. Very rarely have those fly over. Where we heard the
Poorwills is exactly like where they're found out at Commons Ford.
Hopefully we can get a recording of the Whip tomorrow if it sticks around

Nice. No Poor-wills, but over here, on the other side, the Chucks (2)
began at 8:23 and the Whips (2) at 8:37...The Peacocks just kept going and
going....Fair flight of Uplands this evening.

Three nightjars in Lago tonight. Saw two chucks, heard about 4 others,
heard the Whip poor will very briefly next to the house and also two
Common Poorwills were chiming up across the street. First time hearing
those in Lago as well. Great night overall!
