[texbirds] This year's competition with Rich Kostecke

Greetings All:
I will submit my full report of this year's game (how many species I can find
in my region) separately but I figured that I should let folk know how things
are going with me and my counties (Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Floyd, Motley, Cochran,
Hockley, Lubbock, Crosby, Dickens, Yoakum, Terry, Lynn, Garza, and Kent) versus
Rich Kostecke and his counties (Bell, Williamson, Travis, Falls, Milam, Lee,
Burleson, Washington, Fayette, Brazos, Austin, Colorado, Madison, Grimes,
Waller).
As I had hoped my plan to lull my friend into a false sense of security has
succeeded! In fact, given that he had racked up 137 species in his region by
the end of January while I had only managed to find 98 species in my region by
the end of January, my plans had succeeded beyond my wildest dreams! With a 39
species lead at the end of the first month, he will - within any luck- take the
entire month of February off:) On the other hand, he may keep going strong
and we will have to invoke a mercy rule of some sort at the end of March - and
I will just send him his bottle of whiskey!
I will keep folk posted and will work hard to make the whole thing a bit more
competitive but I fear that this time I am in well over my head.
