Greetings All:
Rich Kostecke ended the month of February with 71 species on his Devine
Lake Park bird list for 2015. During March he added twenty species
(Blue-winged Teal, Pied-billed Grebe, Sandhill Crane, Blue-headed Vireo,
Purple Martin, Barn Swallow, Hermit Thrush, Red-bellied Woodpecker, House
Wren, Osprey, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Downy Woodpecker, White-eyed
Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Great-tailed Grackle, Brown-headed Cowbird,
Chimney Swift, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Black-throated Green Warbler,
Summer Tanager, and Eastern Meadowlark), bringing his little park in the
woods up to 91 species.
Anthony Hewetson ended the month of February with 62 species on his Clapp
Park bird list for 2015. During march he added twenty-three species
(Pied-billed Grebe, Ruddy Duck, Ring-necked Duck, American Kestrel,
Blue-winged Teal, Eastern Bluebird, Inca Dove, Curve-billed Thrasher,
Purple Martin, Double-crested Cormorant, Winter Wren, Northern Shoveler,
Killdeer, Lesser Scaup, Brown Creeper, Cinnamon Teal, Yellow-headed
Blackbird, Brown Thrasher, Black-necked Stilt, Lesser Yellowlegs, Common
Grackle, Bronzed Cowbird, and Yellow-crowned Night Heron), bringing his
little park on the plains up to 84 species.
You will note that I am listing species in order of chronological
appearance on their respective list. This will allow the close reader to
get a better feel for how the seasons play out in our two, very different
areas.
At the end of March, with a bit of water left in the playa at Clapp Park,
Anthony was still feeling a bit of optimism. Look forward to the first
post from April for a wee bit o' despondency.
