You might recall Steve Gross and I started the TOSRBA which was based
on a free service that is no longer being offered.Steve never had a
smart phone and was looking for a way to get text messages when a rare
bird showed up so he would stop arriving home from High Island and
discover that a Black-whiskered Vireo was found that day at Sabine
Woods.

I've been searching for a replacement and I think I have found one. I
found an app, Group Me that is supported on both SMS, iOS, and
Android. I'd like to restart the TOSRBA on this service.

I've named the group on Group Me TEXASRBA since I don't have the TOS
Board approval yet. I'd like to get some testers for this group; You
can join the group via this link:

https://app.groupme.com/join_group/12113655/Fut2mc

I think you can also join the group via an SMS message by sending a
message to 319-483-6331 and sending the following message:

add# [name] [phone]

for example I would send add# David 713-412-4409

If you have trouble signing up send me a note and I will sign you up directly.

Once you have joined the group you can send an update by just sending
an SMS (text) message to 319-483-6331 and it will go to the whole
group.

You can also join via the website at www.groupme.com

For posting updates please follow the original rules at:

None of this and the bird code list are carved in stone. Originally
Steve and I were criticized for making the code list too East
Texas-centric. Since we were both from the east part of the sate thats
likely fare. The code list is just a starting point and can be changed.
Long term I'd like to form a core group that maintains the code list.

The rba can be used for up to the minute info on a bird, updates on
where the Gray-crowned Yellowthroat is being seen right now would be
fine.

I think this RBA would be very good for info on what I call the "near
review list birds" like Little Gull or Painted Redstart, birds that
are not review species, but are still hard to see with out a lot of
effort and luck.
