At 5:15 pm, six black scoters (all female or immatures-no adult males) were observed just off the fishing access trail at Dagger Point at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. They were located about 75 yards off the land and were swimming to deeper water. The scoters were actively diving and stayed together . They will likely be around tomorrow although perhaps not in the same spot. This is the same location where three black scoters spent much of the early spring this year. Also in the area were horned grebe, lesser scaup, bufflehead, white and brown pelicans and cormorants. This is generally a good spot for goldeneyes as well.
