Hello Texbirders,
If you're going to be in the Rio Grande Valley we would love to have you
join us at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge for one of our weekly bird
walks. Fourteen of us saw 66 species on our morning walk even though we
missed some of our regulars (see ebird list below.) One couple saw 11 life
birds and sharing lifers with someone is like seeing them for the first
time all over again! Fun stuff!
Seven more species were picked up this afternoon (Say's Phoebe, Redhead,
Cinnamon Teal, Mottled Ducks, Common Yellowthroat and Common Gallinule) for
a day total species count of 73. And though we didn't personally lay eyes
on the continuing sub adult Northern Jacana, it was seen today by visitors.
Bird walks meet at the Visitor Center at 8:30 am every Friday, Saturday,
Sunday and Monday morning (though we expect a large group this Monday so
another day might be preferred.)
