A couple from Arlington, Texas joined me for the bird walk this morning. One of their main target birds was Ringed Kingfisher, and we had one fly right over us on the Willow Lakes Trail. We heard a Gray Hawk calling from somewhere probably just a bit west of the Visitor Center. One to two gray hawks have been somewhat reliable near the Visitor Center parking lot in late afternoon/early evening. We didn't venture that way today, but I believe the Wilson's Phalarope is still present on Pintail Lake. Elsewhere on Lower Rio Grande Valley NWR, just downhill from SALINENO (the tract between Salineno and the river), USFWS volunteers are feeding twice daily- around 8 am and around noon. Two Audubon's Orioles, as well as one Hooded Oriole, have been making an appearance fairly regularly, as well as 8 or so Altimira Orioles.
