Linda Bellsner and I spent 4 hours in the north unit of Richland Creek WMA this morning, mostly in Freestone county. There are still thousands of large wading birds present, estimates below, and good numbers of shorebirds, although no rarities were noted. A few fall migrant passerines were coming through, including Alder Flycatcher, Yellow Warbler. Selected birds listed below. Largest flock was of approximately 400 birds in the air at once. Approximately two thirds to three quarters were immatures with varying amounts of brown feathers.
