Despite all the flooding, we managed to have a fairly successful count on
New Years Eve day. Thanks to the flexibility of the birders to move to
upper ground. We managed to pull in 125 species. A Say's Phoebe might have
been the best bird, from the Navarro Co. region. Also a big flock of Tree
Swallows and a Barn Swallow on Trinidad Lake, A Red-breasted Nuthatch out
of the woods to the south and Red-breasted Mergansers off Richland
Chambers Res. are other highlights. A Eurasian x American Wigeon showed up
in Henderson Co. Compared to last years 131 species, We really didn't miss
out on too many species that Richland Creek WMA would have pulled in.
