I went out to Riata Pond, which is in my patch and I hadn't even known it existed. Was very birdy. Had 25 species in just under an hour and added enough to push me over 100 for my patch total (102) and had Dark-eyed Juncos, Sedge Wren (heard and seen), Brown Thrasher, and Lincoln's, Vesper, Fox, and Grasshopper Sparrows. Now, I'm off to Pedernales Falls to take pictures of bird blinds for Susan. David, I have to say the Local Patch Challenge is one of the very best ideas you've had. I'm having a blast and learning about neat places nearby I hadn't even known about. The only drawback at Riata Pond and park is the noise from Hwy 183, even though it's nearly a mile away I think. Just the normal traffic noise is bad enough (and unavoidable), but it is my considered opinion that people who ride motorbikes that sound from that distance like a leaf blower at 5 feet should be summarily shot! Come to think of it, there's a lot to be said for rakes too.
