Migrating Black-and-white Warblers appeared yesterday. Today they are throughout the park. Five of the seven reported were in one tree. In the same area - Yellowthroat near Hunter's Lane - two Nashville Warblers, a Blue-headed Vireo and a Black-throated Gray Warbler were in with some vocal titmice and gnatcatchers. The resaca at Hunter's Lane is starting to get some nice mud flats. The end of Screwbean Alley has been recently mowed and you can mow approach the resaca easily from this angle. Dowitchers are back, as are Roseate Spoonbills. Most of the ibis were near the first bridge. Best surprise of the morning - three Swamp Sparrows in the reeds where one of the yellowthroats was calling. -- Sherry Wilson Resident Park Host Resaca de la Palma State Park 1000 New Carmen Road Brownsville, TX 78521 956-350-2920 Bird Walks every Saturday - 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Butterfly Walks every Sunday - 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Night Hikes every Friday (must RSVP by 5:00 p.m. Thurs) - small fee Nature Tram Rides - Wednesday thru Sunday (Visitor Center closed Mon/Tues) http://www.facebook.com/resacadelapalma DIRECTIONS: The main entrance to Resaca de la Palma State Park is located on New Carmen Blvd. From Expressway 77/83, exit at Olmito, take FM 1732, follow for 2.5 miles; turn left at New Carmen Road; follow for 1.5 miles; shortly after the gravel hump in the road, turn left to enter the park. *Learn how you can help Texas State Parks:* http://bit.ly/sVdilb 57 species (+1 other taxa) Gadwall 4 American Wigeon 10 Mottled Duck 2 Blue-winged Teal 12 Plain Chachalaca 7 Least Grebe 1 Pied-billed Grebe 7 Double-crested Cormorant 2 American White Pelican 120 Great Blue Heron 2 Great Egret 3 Snowy Egret 2 Little Blue Heron 4 White Ibis 34 White-faced Ibis 21 Roseate Spoonbill 24 Turkey Vulture 6 White-tailed Kite 3 Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 Red-tailed Hawk 1 American Coot 8 Solitary Sandpiper 2 Short-billed/Long-billed Dowitcher 58 Laughing Gull 7 Mourning Dove 1 Inca Dove 3 White-tipped Dove 4 Belted Kingfisher 3 Golden-fronted Woodpecker 9 Ladder-backed Woodpecker 2 Great Kiskadee 15 Couch's Kingbird 11 Scissor-tailed Flycatcher 5 White-eyed Vireo 6 Blue-headed Vireo 2 Green Jay 18 Purple Martin 1 Tree Swallow 12 Cave Swallow 8 Black-crested Titmouse 8 Verdin 2 House Wren 2 Bewick's Wren 1 Carolina Wren 3 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 5 Northern Mockingbird 15 Long-billed Thrasher 7 Black-and-white Warbler 7 Orange-crowned Warbler 3 Nashville Warbler 2 Common Yellowthroat 2 Black-throated Gray Warbler 1 Olive Sparrow 6 Swamp Sparrow 3 Northern Cardinal 12 Red-winged Blackbird 31 Great-tailed Grackle 17 Altamira Oriole 3 Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
