Thanks to all! Certainly different than Purple Finch. I will be listening to
the skies.
BTW - a quick internet search on Cassin's flight call yielded nothing, not even
on Xeno-canto. Huh....

Clay,
It's a lot different. It's a clear, disyllabic whistle and sounds like
"cheer-up." The tonal quality is sort of similar to that of the Crissal
Thrasher call note that I hear all the time where I work.
Happy finching!

Hmmm.... good point about the finches, Rhandy. Is it different than the "tick,
tick, tick" of a Purple Finch? I will have to check on that.

A single bird, calling and observed close, at the South Llano River State Park

increasing in number. Brisk cold front expected tomorrow, and with forecast
freezing temps in Junction area, hopefully will push more stuff down. And, with
recent reports of Cassin's Finch in west Texas mountains and exorbitant numbers
in SE Arizona mountains(250 in the Chiricahua's) I've been listening on ipod to
the flight call of that species.
