King Ranch Tours are the only way to bird the King Ranch. Allow all day if you
decide to do a tour. You could do Laguna Atascosa and Frontera in a day but
not the King Ranch as well.
See http://www.king-ranch.com/visit/nature-tours/ for the winter birding tours ;
on the King Ranch.
The LRGV Rare Bird Alert is online at rgvbirds.blogspot.com. it's updated on
Thursdays and when discoveries are made between posts.

TEXBirds,
I’ll be in San Antonio on business in a couple of weeks and tacked on the
weekend before to do some birding. I have a few target birds I want to check
off. I am looking for the following:
Mountain PloverSprague’s pipitAplomado FalconWhite-collared
SeedeaterAudubon’s OrioleLark BuntingTropical ParulaCrimson-collared
GrosbeakZone-tailed hawkEgyptian gooseI looked in eBird for recent sightings.
Below is what my plan is. My question to the list is does my plan makes
sense. Are these the best places to locate these birds? Any better place
that I am missing or any tips, suggestions, etc.?
I may revise after checking where they are being seen after this weekend's
eBird sightings.
Plover: King Ranch – Laureles Division or King Ranch visitor center
Pipit: King Ranch – Laureles Division or King Ranch visitor center, Laguna
Astascosa – Bahia Grande, Anzalduas Park
Aplomado Falcon: Laguna Atascosa NWR, Laguna Atascosa NWR--Bayside Drive –
Bahia Grande, Cameron Co.--Hwy100--Aplomado Viewing Area, Old Port Isabel Rd
Audubon’s Oriole: Mitchell Lake Audubon Center… San Ygnacio Bird Sanctuary &
riverfront, Salineño, Laredo- Las Palmas Trail & Zacate Creek
White-collared Seedeater: Laredo- Las Palmas Trail & Zacate Creek
Lark Bunting: Bexar Co.--Hardy/Mathis Rd. (E. of I-37), Bentsen
Tropical Parula: Frontera or estero llano if still there
Crimson-collared Grosbeak: Frontera Audubon Center, seen daily – see if
still true in 2 weeks
Zone-tailed hawk: Frontera, check and see of still there.
Egyptian goose: Live Oak City Pk, Landa Park SA area, San
Antonio--Brackenridge Park--Joske Pavilion & Lambert Beach
My plan is stay in Harlingen and work Frontera, Ki ng Ranch, Laguan Astascosa
the first day, maybe LA again day two then up through Zapata, back to San
Anton that night.
Goose and bunting I can try for out of San Anton before meetings on a given
day
Thanks,
Dave Starrett
