You made some great choices for birding books that cover the Texas Gulf
Coast: *“A Birder’s Guide To The Texas Coast” and “Finding Birds On The
Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail”* . I own them both, and you can't go
wrong with either of them. A question -> If you will be in the texas Gulf
Coast area during spring migration, why stop at Aransas? Some of the
brightest jewels of the Texas coast from mid-March to mid-May are located
just a little farther up the coast from Aransas. Some of my favorite spots
ranging from Brazoria county to the Sabine River (TX/LA border) are:
Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary (QNBS), Lafitte's Cove, anywhere and
everywhere in the vicinity of High Island, and Sabine Woods. Check eBird
for the historically best times to visit these sites. If you happen to
connect with one of these birding meccas at the right time, it can be
overwhelming - lay your camera down and just watch.
BTW - these are just my favorites - there are so many more great places to
bird and the books you have will fill you in on the details. If you're
interested in avian conservation, and all things birds, then please check
out the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO.org) before and during your trip.
