. Yesterday morning on the Bastrop CBC Purple Finches were singing and calling near the intersection of Goiter and Alum Creek road...A left here will get you on Goiter that is closed off. There is a brown house and a gate that goes into a closed area of the park. The birds were high in trees between the gate and the brown house. First heard and seen against dark, rainy skies as they sang the typical song along with some vireoish type sounds (don't confuse with the several singing Fox Sparrows here)...There may be 5 birds but in the bad light I did not see but 2 until they flew. ..This stretch of Goiter Rd. is closed to traffic since the fire and you'll see why, especially in wet weather, should you try to drive it. The area is just filthy with sparrows and other passerines in the tall weeds between and behind the house and gate...East of Alum Ck on Goiter were Wild Turkeys....At least two Red-headed Woodpeckers are hanging out near intersection of Alum Ck and Park Rd. 1C and have been there for a while......A Hairy Wood was about 300 yd.s south of Park Rd. 1C and its intersection with Harmon Rd.....Did not bird this area well but it is sometimes a good place to find them. ********************************************************************** Brush Freeman 503-551-5150 Cell 120 N.
