Today (03/02) at Polywog Ponds in NW Corpus Christi I had a beautiful male
Wilson's Warbler and an ultra-sharp Blue-headed Vireo, American Robin, and
Lincoln's Sparrow.
Still several Bufflehead on the Ponds(including 3 adult males), and numerous
Ring-necked Ducks(including some stunning males).
Other highlights included an immature Peregrine Falcon, immature Red-shouldered
Hawk, immature White-tailed Hawk, and a very impressive dark morph Red-tailed
Hawk(adult).
Birds observed last week at Polywog: Vermilion Flycatcher(a near-adult male,
strikingly colored), Tropical Kingbird(seen and heard), and Green
Kingfishers(male and female).
Technically, Spring may be a few weeks away - but I have seen 4 species of
Snakes at Polywog since February 1st: Texas Indigo Snake, Diamondback Water
Snake, Gulf Coast Ribbon Snake, and Texas Coral Snake. The Coral was especially
impressive - approximately 40 inches in length(not far off record size, from
what I read); certainly the largest that I have seen.
Side note: yesterday(03/01), I saw a White-tailed Kite diving on a Crested
Caracara along CR69(also called Hazel Bazemore Road). This awesome spectacle
occurred on the South side of CR69 - which is on the opposite side of FM624
from the entrance road to Hazel Bazemore County Park.
