I birded Deaf Smith and Parmer Counties on Saturday with a general paucity of birds. Before departing I did see 67 FOS Turkey Vultures in Amarillo; my first indication that spring migration is underway in the Panhandle. At Glenrio I did have a Say's Phoebe. South of town on a prairie dog town I saw 9 Scaled Quail, my first sighting in the Panhandle for nearly four years. At an irrigation tail water pit a small flock of McCown's Longspurs came in to the water. The city park pond in Friona is nearly dried up but there was a Canvasback and a Ruddy Duck there.
