Jan and I woke yesterday to a new Rufous/Allen's juvenile male Hummingbird. He has taken up residence right outside our kitchen window on some vines not 5-6 feet from the feeder there. He has been very calm even with us moving around by that window. WOW what a difference a few months make. We have gone from dry and hot at the end of the summer to cold and about to float off here. I have lost track of how much rain we have had bit when I got up this morning there were 6 Egrets in our ditch out front. Four Snowy's and two Greats. I went over to the JJ Meyes Trace yesterday for a couple of hours and it was very quite compared to two days ago. Could not refind the Canvasbacks, Ring-necked Ducks and the Scaup that I think was a Greater. I did see a beautiful Krider's Red-tailed Hawk that some other birders had in there scope when I arrived. Also saw the juvenile Bald Eagle they had already seen. I did find the one lone dark Ibis but before I could get a scope on it, it dissapeared into the weeds, So still have to call it White-faced.
