Here's a few more impressions of the "yellow-cheeked" warbler in Boot Canyon.
Jerald Zimmerman and I were trying to get better views of the Flame-colored
Tanager when I heard a warbler chip ahead on the trail. There was a Colima
Warbler and this other warbler. I'm pretty good with the Black-throated Green
Warbler chip and that didn't come to mind when I first heard it. The call
might even have come from the Colima. I don't know the Colima chip note. When
I first glimpsed it I thought I saw yellow, grey, black and white. I didn't
note any green. I had a first thought of Townsend's Warbler but upon better
view didn't see any yellow on the breast and Golden-cheeked Warbler came to
mind. Anyway, instead of trying to study the bird more, I went for the camera
and fired a few shots. Jerald's impression was that it was a Black-throated
Green. I think the reason Golden-cheeked Warbler came to me so quickly was the
fact that I saw one near the junction of the Colima and Southwest Rim trails on
Aug 3, 2001 in the company of a Black-and-white Warbler. This was a nice
black-backed bird that was easy to ID. Here are all my photos from 6/24/13.

I searched through lots of images on line and couldn't find a Golden-cheeked
Warbler with a dark cheek patch. All of the Townsend's photos showed at least
some yellow on the breast. But there sure doesn't appear to be any yellow
around the vent so that would tend to rule out Black-throated Green. I guess a
hybrid is a possibility with Black-throated Green X Townsend's. But take a
look at this.

So now we're back to Golden-cheeked? I'll post these photos on ID Frontiers
and see what they have to say.

To answer Mitch's question about the hummer. It was way too big for Calliope
or Bumblebee Hummer. There were two Selasphorus chasing each other and being
chased by the Magnificent. I can't say that both of them were so bright rufous
below.
