This morning the Mississippi Kite Chick started it's day with some nice red meat. I could not tell until I enlarged the photo what it was but in the first picture if you enlarge it you will see it's a small rat of some species. What you are looking at is the parent on the right and the chick with it's back to you so you see the butt of the wing. Laying between them is the dead rat. Later this afternoon I spent quite a while trying to get photos of one of the parents bringing food to the nest. Suddenly one of them came shooting through the trees like a Wood Duck and lit almost right above me. It sat for a short time and quickly went and dropped off the Dragonfly it had and left again. Guess it was a fast food delivery. If we counted correctly there was about 12 of them. Looks like maybe 2 broods. We were also joined by a single male Orchard Oriole.
