Had a great experience with uplands at the Smith Point Hawk Watch. The
front? was forecast to die before it got to Houston. And when I left
Houston there was no rain around where the front would be but it
redeveloped after the sun came up and went by around 9am.
The short sprinkle activated the upland sandpipers and we had a total of
269 birds pass the tower with all except one group not very high. Flocks of
63, 44 and 42 etc. My most spectacular show of the species anywhere ever.
More birds were heard way up there like normal where you can not even see
them and I have no idea how many went by like that but maybe a dozen
singles or groups heard but not seen.
Another reason that smith point is the epitome of migration. That said we
had zero hawks again and 2 landbird individuals but a wave of tricolored
herons and black terns.

Got up extra early for the cosmic show but after almost 2 months of almost
clear skies,, it's cloudy. However there is a real good movement of
Uplands going over Bastrop Co. and an HO yellowlegs...this rare Aug. front
might be productive.
