This morning there were 3 Slated-colored subspecies of Dark-eyed Junco at
the end of Chinquapin Rd in SE Matagorda County. Juncos can be tough to
find in Matagorda County so I was really surprised to see these birds.
There was a late Scissor-tailed Flycatcher perched on a power line about
half way down Chinquapin. Also a Merlin and White-tailed Kite were nice.
There seems to be more sparrows than just a few days ago though diversity
is still low. Mainly seeing Savannah, Lincoln and Swamp with a smattering
of Song down here.
Good birding!
