. A bird I never ever expected to see in Texas in August....Brewer's Sparrows on Mimm's Ranch ...I know there are records and I have one crappy photo of one but we saw at least 7 and I suspect several more on the grasslands but all would vanish into small patches of bare ground before I could be 100%...Numerous Ammo.s that took flight as we drove about but the darn things just would not present themselve as there are no bushes or other perches for them to come up to for view...I assume they are all Grasshoppers but I'll be darned if I can get Baird's out of my head. Alimito Creek in one area had a very successful fledging of ZTHAs with 3 fledged birds from one brood....Uplands everywhere in the mornings and some flocks of Dickcissels. Some Lark Buntings are already down and a few in alternate. A badger was sighted today...Very cool native grasses and plants. Never did any mountain birding. The Brewer's Sparrows were an August lifer for me...I never expected to see them this month in Texas. ********************************************************************** Brush Freeman 503-551-5150 Cell 120 N.
