Greetings All:
The Lubbock County CBC was held on Saturday, 15 December 2012, and seventeen
birders braved the wind-blown dust, dirt, and debris to find what could be
found.  The species total of 132 was the second highest in twelve years
(exceeded only by 140 in 2008/2009) and this was a testament to diligent
scouting by many team members and to several distinct irruptive events
(nuthatches/creepers - longspurs - finches).  Numbers, for the most part, were
down as the ongoing drought has left little in the way of water for water birds
and even less in the way of forage for birds in general.  I am going to list
the highlights in taxonomic order with the team in parentheses: Team 1 (Charles
Grair); Team 2 (Anthony Hewetson), Team 3a (Cameron Carver, Craig Carver, Steve
Collins), Team 3b (Cameron Carver, Craig Carver), Team 4 (Manuel De Leon, Juan
Saenz), Team 5 (Rob Lee), Team 6a (Phillip Kite, Aaron Kite, Kristen Linner),
Team 6b (Steve Collins), Team 7a (Aveline
Hewetson, William Wenthe), Team 7b (Jeremy Clark, Canyon Clark), Team 8a
(Susan Bergeson, Susan Thompson), Team 8b (Steve Collins).  Species poached

* Photographs of the probable Northern Shrike are being reviewed.  Due to
lighting, we are having to go with size, shape, and proportions.  The bill was
relatively long and massively hooked, strongly suggesting Northern Shrike.
With any luck the bird will be relocated.  This site is quite close to the
location where David Sarkozi located a Northern Shrike last winter.
