Got out this morning to do some birding in my NW Austin patch. First stop was the east end of the Brushy Creek Trail in Cedar Park (Williamson Co.). The habitat looks lovely but it can be difficult to bird due to all of the foot and vehicle traffic. Anyway, highlights were 5 Warbling Vireo, 2 Philadelphia Vireo, a singing (heard only) Northern Parula, a male Chestnut-sided Warbler, a female Blackpoll Warbler, an Ovenbird, and 2 male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. My next stop was Lake Travis (Austin, Travis Co.). Bob Wentz/Windy Point Park had 3 Redhead, 2 Eared Grebe, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 6 species of shorebirds (highlights being 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper and 13 Long-billed Dowitcher), 1 Franklin's Gull, 6 Forster's Tern, 2 Least Flycatchers, and 1 Tree Swallow. At Cypress Creek Park on Lake Travis, I was able to kick out 1 Wood Thrush and 1 male American Redstart. A quick stop at Sandy Creek Park on Lake Travis kicked out 2 of the resident Rock Wrens, as well as 6 species of shorebirds (2 Killdeer, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, 2 Pectoral Sandpiper, 7 Baird's Sandpiper, 11 Semipalmated Sandpiper, 3 Least Sandpiper).
