Best birds of the day at Lake Pflugerville 9 American Avocets 1 Dowitcher I think the dowitcher may have been a short billed dowitcher because the markings above and below the tail were more white than black. I hope someone else sees it and can confirm this ID. It was NOT a snipe - very plain gray bird with dowitcher beak. The Avocets and the dowitcher were hanging together on the north side of the lake, west of the boat ramp and at the west end of the sandy beach.
