What a thrill of a lifetime for the new birders on the Lake Lewisville
Environmental Learning Area bird walk this morning.not TWO, not FOUR, not
SIX but EIGHT Short-eared Owls were spotted and observed in the restricted
[bison] area of the dam this morning. Definitely the best bird of the day
even for the seasoned birders! The downside was the Swallow-tailed Kite
from earlier in the week has not been re-found. After the excitement of the
owls we hiked the Bittern Trail. Birds were scarce. Highlights of the 30+
birds were:
Osprey

Red-Tail Hawk

Northern Harrier

Red-shouldered Hawk

Wild Turkey

American Pipit

Spotted Towhee

Eastern Meadowlark

Red-wing Blackbird

Harris Sparrow

Song Sparrow

Fox Sparrow

Winter Wren

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

Flicker

Red-bellied Woodpecker

Join us next month, second Saturday!
